Two old companions

Across from the Belfast Depot, aka, Coon Den Lodge, in Tennessee, are two old store buildings.

This one is in pretty bad shape.

The J. C. Tate General Merchandise building looked to be in pretty good shape.
They both are filled with junk, both trash and treasure.

love these old stores, and if the smaller one was mine i would put that recliner inside the store since it is ruining the antique look for my photo. or maybe the owner sits in the chair and waits for buyers. love the pics

Oh wow, I just love seeing old buildings like this. If only they could talk, what stories they would tell.

I love how you wrote that they are both filled with junk, trash AND treasure :-) Yes, that's probably true.
Love the first photo, with the chair on the porch.

Those are some old buildings. You're right, the store appears to be in much better shape than the other building. They look like great places to do some picking!

That first building reminds me of a similar little general store that used to be in the country where I grew up. An old couple ran it and lived in 2 rooms in the back! It had an old pot belly stove for heat in winter and a few chairs for the customers to sit in to visit when they stopped by. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

I would LOVE to wander through a place like that! :-)

What is it about old buildings that fascinate us so much? Maybe it's the stories we can imagine they can tell.
Looks like an interesting place to stop.

I loved Cheryl's memory of an old store. It's very similar to mine. There was an old store similar to those in the little town I grew up in. An old couple ran it too and lived upstairs. It had a potbelly stove and benches outside for people to sit.
Love your photos and would like to pick there!

Aren't those old stores great. I'd love to have the double wash tub thingy on the porch of the smaller store......too cute.
GREAT PICS, Amy. 8-)

Awesome photo opps! The first building looks like it might cave in sometime in the near future. The Tate store looks like it's still in business? The treasures that must be inside!

I really need to get on some southern backroads. When is it NOT humid?

This looks like a fun place to explore and photograph. Also catching up on your recent posts...beautiful passion flowers and the 'snake,' well I too am at a loss. Never saw anything like that!

What wonderful captures. There is something about old porches (especially in the south) that beg to be filled with stuff.

One trip south I kept a log of how many easy-chairs I saw on the porches. Then I came home and drove around my town and logged the recliners and upholstered rockers I found on the porches.

I quickly discovered the south did not have a monopoly on this phenomena. Especially in the poorer areas of town. Perhaps I will take my camera out and see how many I can capture some time soon.

The smaller of the two has sure seen it's better days. Poor thing... :-(
