The Barn Collective #22

This was taken in January 2011 when north Alabama had a foot of snow.  I think we measured 9 inches at our place.  The barn belongs to my mother, but is adjacent to our property.  That is my hubby on the tractor.  I rarely use artsy treatments now and could not tell you what I did to this shot.

We have had a snow and/or ice storm each of the last three weeks here, but I only got a couple of iPhone shots just for the record.  The past week's winter storm was all ice and sleet and stayed around for longer than one day.  I like a snow or two every winter, but three in a row is too much.  I don't see how you folks up north stand it for months at a time.

We are supposed to be in the upper sixties next week with rain.  I hate to complain, but that's getting kinda warm for me.  We go from one extreme to another.

Snow clouds over the lake

Wish I could have stopped for this one.
I keep very few drive by shots because they just don't come out well.  This was also taken through the window because it was too cold to open it.  These are snow clouds over Nickajack Lake on I-24 in Tennessee.  I barely got it in before that 18 wheeler came between me and the view.  And, no I was not driving.  :)

It does snow in Alabama

January 2011 in north Alabama
So I can join the snow photo bandwagon I found something from a couple of years ago.

We drove in falling snow from Nashville on Saturday.  No accumulation to stress me so I enjoyed it.
Here's to a better 2013 for all.

(I am not able to give credit for the texture - too long ago.)

Croley's Barn Revisited

I am reposting a winter barn for this week's Barn Charm.
Someone else posted some snow scenes and I thought I would copy them and
post my own snow in this 100+ degree weather we're having.

It was posted a while back when I decided to start a blog for barns.
That was before I began linking with Barn Charm, so maybe you haven't seen it.

This was my neighbor's barn taken in February 2010.  He became sick in the summer of that year and passed away right before Christmas of that year.
It snowed that Christmas morning also.

Croley, I look over at your barn every time I pull in the driveway.

Forest and the trees

A friend commented on my last post about this photo.  She is right that it is very hard to get a decent photo of a cardinal in the snow.  I was very fortunate that day.  My husband is learning that when I say "stop the car" I mean stop the car -- after making sure it is safe, of course.

It was taken on a dirt road near my home in a forest of pines during the wonderful snow we had in January 2011.

I drove down that road this past week and was upset to find that they are clear-cutting that forest of pines.

I'm glad I have the photos.

Thanks, Kerry, for reminding me.

Winter Wonderland Wish

Winter 2010-2011 brought two "real" snowfalls to the southern states.  I say real, because sometimes we get an inch that melts immediately, or an inch of mixed precipitation that freezes and renders the area completely immobile.  We don't know how to drive on a sheet of ice.

However, we received a healthy snow on Christmas morning 2010.  What a thrill that was!  In my 50 years I don't remember a snow on Christmas morning in my town in Alabama.  (I didn't check the facts on this - but if I don't remember it, then for me anyway, it didn't happen).

Amazingly enough, about two weeks later we got another "real" snow.  About a foot in some areas.  My home grounds measured 8 - 10 inches.

This year is unseasonably warm.  This is the best I will get this year.

Winter wonderland.

I know these are weeds, but I love them.  Weeds have been the subject of other photography projects of mine.
Oh, those are just weeds . . .

Maybe if we wish very hard . . .

White Christmas in The South - 2010
Snow photos can be so blah and don't show the magic of snow and I didn't feel like trying to edit them.
A Christmas Day snow is VERY special to southerners.

It seems that the weather people enjoy telling us that there is no chance for a repeat performance this Christmas.  What do they know?  I'm holding on to my wish.

Christmas and snow. . . finally a subject for December

You may recognize this as a doctor's office complex, but that's where I was when the December 7th snow was falling so prettily.
