The Barn Collective #31 - News

Just off Hwy 64 between Lawrenceburg and Pulaski, TN

Hello all.
I am happy to announce that Tom, The Backroads Traveller, would like to take up the barn meme.   Currently, we are experimenting with my existing linkup on his blog, so bear with us.  It might not go perfectly (or go at all) at first.

Many thanks to Tom!!!

The Barn Collective #30

Better late than never.

The view from my front door, from a few years ago.

Alrighty.  Three ambulance rides and three hospital stays in a month.  We must keep plugging along, though.
Die cancer, die.

Yesterday, our son graduated with honors from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with an Electrical Engineering degree.  A happy event and I can not adequately express how proud we are of him.  Unfortunately, his dad could not be there in person, but he was in spirit from the hospital.  Everyone is very disappointed that this milestone event was dampered with illness and absence.

Myself, Matt, and my Mother.

I am posting from the iPad, so I predict that something will be wrong with the post and/or linkup.  Fingers crossed.

The Barn Collective #28

Another from a few years ago on Hwy 64, between Pulaski and Fayetteville, Tennessee, U. S. A.
Still busy with my husband's medical issues.  Maybe I'll get around to visiting everyone soon.

The Barn Collective #27

This is one of my favorite barns from a few years ago.  One day the pretty rusty roof had been painted or replaced.

We have been home from the hospital for a few days now.  My husband had a partial hip replacement due to the cancer going there.  The hip surgery went as expected, but there were lung  complications and we ended up staying a week longer than expected.  He is better now.

Thanks everyone, for the well wishes.

The Barn Collective #26

Appleton, Tennessee, U. S. A.

This is a repost from a few years ago.  I am not able to keep up much these days.  My husband has been in the hospital for over a week.  I hope to be able to get back soon to whatever our normal is these days.

Thanks for hanging with me!

The Barn Collective #22

This was taken in January 2011 when north Alabama had a foot of snow.  I think we measured 9 inches at our place.  The barn belongs to my mother, but is adjacent to our property.  That is my hubby on the tractor.  I rarely use artsy treatments now and could not tell you what I did to this shot.

We have had a snow and/or ice storm each of the last three weeks here, but I only got a couple of iPhone shots just for the record.  The past week's winter storm was all ice and sleet and stayed around for longer than one day.  I like a snow or two every winter, but three in a row is too much.  I don't see how you folks up north stand it for months at a time.

We are supposed to be in the upper sixties next week with rain.  I hate to complain, but that's getting kinda warm for me.  We go from one extreme to another.

Old Courthouse Museum, Vicksburg, Mississippi, U. S. A.

There are several gorgeous old pianos at the

Some are in great shape, but this one above has some wear.

Others were in much better shape.

Windsor Ruins, Port Gibson / Alcorn, Mississippi, U. S. A.

Windsor Ruins, near Port Gibson / Alcorn, Mississippi, U. S. A.

What an awesome experience to stand next to these huge pillars and imagine what it must have been like to live in a home such as this.  The home survived the Civil War by being occupied by the Union Army, just to burn down in 1890 from a carelessly thrown cigarette.

The sky was disappointing the day we were there, but the websites below have some better shots.

Old Courthouse Museum, Vicksburg, Mississippi

We took a short trip to Vicksburg and Natchez, Mississippi in December.  The Old Courthouse Museum in Vicksburg has a lot of history and memorabilia.  Visit if you can.

Happy Birthday, Robert E. Lee

Idyllic

Got it all here.
Rural, old, architecture, abandoned, fence, church, blue sky

Sometimes we avoid the interstate going back and forth to Nashville.
We found this gem this week.

The cotton report

Contrary to what I had been hearing this year, the cotton crops look great.  Of course, that's to my non-farmer eye.  To me, if it looks mostly fluffy white when you look across the field, it's a good crop.
I hope the weather does what it's supposed to so they can have a good year.
