Four and twenty (Rurality # 2)
There were more like one thousand and twenty blackbirds swirling and twirling around behind my house the other day.
Do you remember the nursery rhyme?
Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?
The king was in his counting house,
Counting out his money;
The queen was in the parlour,
Eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes;
When down came a blackbird
And pecked off her nose.

"Likker"
Taken through a chain-link fence which was temporarily installed around the riverwalk area in downtown Nashville in August of this year. There was a BBQ contest going on and you had to pay to get in. We were too cheap to pay to walk around and sample bar-b-que, so we just peered through the fence like outsiders.
Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton was a moonshiner in Tennessee. He claimed to make the best $%@&* "likker" anyone had ever tasted.

I would have liked to have seen Grand Funk Railroad, but we were leaving too early on the Saturday. And, on Friday night, The Fabulous Thunderbirds might have gotten our money, but 9 p.m. is pretty much our bedtime even on a weekend outing.
I know, I know, pathetic.

Friday's Fence looking to fall
Sorry. I know you might have expected a beautiful outdoor scene with fallen leaves all around a rural fence.
The truth is that I have no fence this week so I went digging.
Since I really, really want fall (my favorite season) and cooler weather to be here, I thought
I would take liberties and use this as a fence entry.
Notice the date. Almost ten years ago. I've been putting something similar on my
kitchen counter for a long, long time.
Actually, all over the house.
