October pool party

Four Blue Birds and several House Finches had a ball in the pool a couple of weeks ago.

Late summer weeknight

School has started and vacationers are home on this weeknight in late August.

On the lake

We took the boat out one evening while our son was home for a couple of weeks before he went back to campus. The temperature and humidity were not bad or this woman would have stayed at home. They didn't catch anything and there weren't many photo ops either. The wildlife was pretty scarce. Getting a sharp image in a bobbing boat is certainly a challenge, but I did manage to get a fairly decent shot of a heron of some kind.

Sorry, not the season "spring", but a natural spring in wintertime

Smooth water

Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, U. S. A.
I was able to try a long exposure water shot using a neutral density filter on our trip to the Smokies in October.  The water is a little too smooth for me.  If it hadn't been so cold, I would have tried a few at f8 and f11 which should have shortened the shutter time open, therefore lessening the water movement blur.

Also, the best thing would have been for me to be standing in the middle of that stream, with a wider lens and the camera positioned more near the water level.

Maybe next time. (when I'm younger, more fit, and have wading boots)

f16, 25 sec exposure, ISO 100, with 1.8 ND filter

Beautiful sunrise looking east.

Thanks to my lucky friend, David, who has this view every day and chose to share this one using his iPhone.

Lake Guntersville State Park

The lodge is beautiful and has recently been renovated.

The bottom photo shows the camping facilities which lost many trees in the April 2011 tornadoes that devastated much of Alabama.

Plan a visit to this beautiful lake or one of the other Alabama State Parks.

For the birds

One of several transmission line towers serving as high rises for water foul near Wheeler Dam, Tennessee River, northwest Alabama, The Shoals.

They are at maximum capacity every time I go buy either in a car or boat.

Flying

I believe this is an American Pelican.

Hey, Brian King.
I'm going to do this as well as you one of these days.

Smile.

Drab cuties

Turtle cuties in drab green.
This is far from my usual colorful shots, but I couldn't resist with their perfect little reflections.
This was as close as I dared get with the camera, 270 mm zoom, and as close as I dared crop the photo.
(Not sure about that tire.  I suppose it is someone's trash.)

Summertime

Maybe not so much the fries, but a grilled hot dog and relish mean summertime to me.

Looks nice, doesn't it?
Summer also means that soon the heat and humidity will prevent me from enjoying it.
