Remember the fallen

Let us not forget families of our fallen this holiday season.

National Cemetery, Natchez, Mississippi, U. S. A.

St. Mary Basilica, Natchez

Needed the tripod for this one, but it is still pretty.

Remember that there will not be a Barn Collective linkup today, but it will return next Sunday, December 28.

Happy Holidays!

Mississippi - Part Sixteen - Natchez, morning, noon, and night

I'm glad that I used text instead of numerals for the "Part so-n-so" in the title.
Text is a little less obvious about how long this has been going on.

All of these shots are along the river bank in Natchez, Mississippi
I'm showing the below shot again for perspective.

Natchez sets high above the Mississippi River.  See the walls right below the buildings in the above shot?

These are those walls.  They are huge.
The above shots were taken in the evening.

The shots below were taken in the morning.

The Grand Hotel is across the street from the park which runs along the river bank.
It appears to be a new structure.

See those people on the right edge of the shot?
They were rescuing a tiny kitten from a man-hole.
It had ridden to work that day underneath the car of an employee.

I never know how to end these things.

Light and a curiousity

The dormer window in our room at Dunleith Inn, Natchez, Mississippi in May 2012

Besides the shadows, the other interesting thing is the little wall window.  It was just that.  A window on each  side of that dormer alcove.  You could see in, but only as far as the spider webs up against the glass.  I suppose they were dumbwaiter access from days gone by.
I posted about the room previously at

Mossy oak and a fence

Natchez, Mississippi didn't have the huge masses of moss dripping off trees like you see in Louisiana
(or at least I didn't find any),
but Natchez did have plenty of fences

Mississippi - Part Fourteen - Dunleith - Accomodations

Our room in the main house at Dunleith Inn, Natchez, Mississippi

See those little short doors?
My imagination was at work conjuring up spirits that would come through them during the night.
I know, spirits do not need doors, but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Even though guests were not allowed below this floor of the house.
It was still a fun place to stay.

The Spirit of Elvis

The Spirit of Elvis was taking a break in a rest stop along the Natchez Trace Parkway in Mississippi.  It had been to a car show in Tupelo, MS that weekend.

The owner could have been Elvis himself.
I wish I had a picture of him.

Mississippi - Part Eleven - Natchez - Dunleith at Dusk

Dunleith Inn, Natchez, Mississippi

The Castle Restaurant and Pub
A short walk from the mansion.

Our room was on the top floor where the right most dormer is.

Did she say yes?

A beautiful path of rose petals and tea lights at dusk.

Preparations were underway for a young man who was proposing this evening
under the magnolia at Dunleith Inn in Natchez, MS.
