Forest and the trees

A friend commented on my last post about this photo.  She is right that it is very hard to get a decent photo of a cardinal in the snow.  I was very fortunate that day.  My husband is learning that when I say "stop the car" I mean stop the car -- after making sure it is safe, of course.

It was taken on a dirt road near my home in a forest of pines during the wonderful snow we had in January 2011.

I drove down that road this past week and was upset to find that they are clear-cutting that forest of pines.

I'm glad I have the photos.

Thanks, Kerry, for reminding me.

Limonade Gazeuse 2

When asked what I'm going to do with some junk I buy, many times I say

"I'm going to look at it"

And, that's exactly what I'm doing with my French Limonade bottles.  They go well with my tarnished silverplate and some tiny junk thrown in.

Thank you so much!

Wow.  I feel very honored to be featured by Brenda at Cozy Little House in Welcome Wagon Friday.  Everyone is so kind.  I truly appreciate all the visits and nice comments.

I hope to continue posting routinely as I have quite a collection of things and I visit shops often.  I do not have a business of any kind,  I just shop and collect.  One of these days that might change just so I can make some room.

My biggest hobby is photography.  Since the weather is not the best now, I decided photographing antiques, junk and collections is the next best thing -- as they are my second favorite hobby.

You people party a lot and I will figure out that aspect of blogging one day.

Thank you for the wonderful welcome,
Amy

This lady needs help

A skull, you asked?  He remained after all the Halloween was put away one year and I liked him there year around.  So he stayed.  (He's not the weirdest thing in this cabinet, BTW)

This is a little German coin purse.

Ancestors

Please enjoy some of my ancestors.

Have you wondered why so many old photographs end up for sale in antique stores?  They are everywhere.  How did so many of them get away from the family?   Hopefully, most of them came from a photographer's own stash of copies of his work and were not tossed away by unappreciative descendants.  Many of them are tattered and have handwriting on the back with names and dates so that is not the case with all of them.

These are just a few of old photos I have.  I have some originals, and some are copies of what other family members have.  If the originals get away, I have them all scanned, high quality, backed up, electronic copy in bank safe deposit box - the works.

For those who are lucky enough to have these precious photos, please make the time to protect them (and your newer photos) from the worst.  One fire, tornado, flood, crashed hard drive can take them from us in a split second.  Get a scanner, learn how to use it, back up your hard drive, or pay someone to do it for you.  Whatever effort you go to to retain these old photographs will be worth it.

Rusty Nail Trading Post

A new favorite.
So many photo ops here and bad/good for me - so many purchase ops!  I'm not sure where to start, but here's the big picture.  Isn't it great!

Yes, a rope bridge!

Something in the above photo came home with me.  The globe.  And yes, I already have one, but it's not pretty blue and gold like this one.

We will revisit the Rusty Nail with more photos in a future post.
In the meantime please visit the Rusty Nail Trading Post's website.
and the Rusty Nail on Facebook.
Happy shopping!

Time, and time again . . .

Time and time again something funny happens that makes one realize what a small world it really is . . . and the power of the internet.  Today, while antiquing with a friend I met a fellow blogger.  I had just commented to my friend that the items in the booth we were in reminded me so much of a blog that I follow.  We moved on and shortly a lady came into the store, went into the same booth and began to work in the booth (I believe it's called "fluffing").  Anyway, I thought she looked familiar and somehow we started a conversation.  It finally hit me why I thought I knew her.  I asked if her name was "______" and it was.  It was the blogger I was speaking of earlier to my friend. She lives about 30 miles from me and I had happened upon her blog a month or so ago.  Life is funny.

If she sees this post and lets me know that it is OK to mention her name and/or her blog here, I will gladly do so.  If not, you will forever be wondering.

Update:  Sandie @ Steadmans' Corner is a fun lady with a new booth.  Good luck to her and her parents!
