I used to drive by this place and wonder about the house with the big porches. It was a basic farmhouse but it was kept neat and maintained even though I was sure that no one lived there. Being a small town I figured that I knew, or at least knew of, the family who had lived there, but I never bothered to find out.
Within the last year it was torn down and all that remains is the chimney.
I hope they leave it.

Difficult to see these familiar landmarks disappear...
beautiful and it brings back memories of the field next to our house when i was grade school age, it had the old fireplace and chimney all by itself, it was big enough we could sit inside the fireplace, we played hide and seek with it as our base.
Great photo but so sad to see just the lonely chimney standing. I wonder why they left it? I'd think it might be a hazard. I tried to comment on your post of the birds but couldn't so will do it here. The single bird I'm not sure of but not a robin. Those are American Goldfinches and either house finches or common redpolls on the feeder (I think). Have a good week.
Sad that they tore the house down. I love how the sun is shining on the chimney and he trees though.
I always wonder about the lives of those who lived in the abandoned homes and hope they were happy ones. It's sad to see them taken down, but maybe it wasn't safe to leave it standing and fixing it up would be too costly. Nice shot of the lone chimney!
Awww, sad to see an old farmhouse that is no longer there I'll bet. The chimney is like a marker for the site now. Pretty light.
It is really disturbing to me when this happens. A landmark of sorts that we get accustomed to seeing and then poof...just like that the landmark, along with all of its history is gone...like it never existed. So sad.
It's odd that they left the chimney, but it is a landmark now of sorts. Beautiful light!

I enjoyed your photos! I, too, had the same experience with an old house on Hwy 47S of Columbiana. Gone, and only the chimney standing. But, I drove by there yesterday and saw daffodils around where the old house had been. Another sign of the past, in a reminder that appears every spring!
