And then it was gone

I used to drive by this place and wonder about the house with the big porches.  It was a basic farmhouse but it was kept neat and maintained even though I was sure that no one lived there.  Being a small town I figured that I knew, or at least knew of, the family who had lived there, but I never bothered to find out.
Within the last year it was torn down and all that remains is the chimney.
I hope they leave it.

Calling all birders

Need help please.  Is the top bird a female Robin?
And forgive the bottom photo as it was taken through the window and screen.
Are those winter Goldfinches?

Well, I never

Sometimes they refuse to cooperate.

And many thanks to everyone for helping me in identifying birds.  Beyond the colorful birds common to this area, I am not up to speed.  If the bird is only brown and/or gray (which is not immediately recognizable to me) I am at a loss.  Yes, you could say that they all look the same to me.  I am learning to look at their beaks as well as coloring.  Please don't give up on me!

Winter moon

I have been seeing some really good moon shots from Alabama the past few days, but I haven't  remembered  been able to catch the moon when it is low enough to try a decent shot of my own.

North Alabama winter bird

A Sparrow?

No, a female House Finch.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my bird identification.
Her male friend was featured a couple of days ago.  She was alone on this particular day and time at the feeder.

Lucy

My BIL/SIL's dog, Lucy, in October 2013.  Sweet, sweet, sweet.
They have a lot of strays and rescue animals on their farm and Lucy is one of them.

Finch

I think this is a House Finch?  I read about an eye disease common with them.  When I zoom into their faces, it appears that they might have it.

An autumn drive

I know, I know . . . it doesn't look very fall-like, but it's winter now and black and white seems more wintery-like.  I don't have any winter snow drive shots.
Maybe I'll get the opportunity this year.

Reflecting

Happy New Year!!!

I did not purposefully choose this image for New Year's Day.  I was finding things to schedule a few days ahead and this one was just next.  I took this shot because I liked the tree and clouds reflecting in the very clean looking windows.  As it turns out, it can be made to fit.  Yesterday was one year, exactly, since my husband's last radiation treatment for his throat cancer.  You could say that reflecting back, I have love/hate feelings towards this place.  Although, this is not the cancer center where we went every weekday for seven weeks, and many times since then, the office of the ENT who first saw Tony is right up there in that concave curve.  I will always remember that visit and looking out to see the "Batman" building (AT&T) downtown Nashville.  And mostly, I will always remember the doctor telling me "You're gonna have to keep him".
(see the Batman building here)
