Father of the Blues

Childhood home of W. C. Handy in Florence, Alabama

William Christopher Handy was born in Florence, Alabama in 1873.  He was known as the "Father of the Blues".
The Shoals area has been hosting a music festival each year during summer for over 30 years.
It's a big party.

I've always wanted to live in a log cabin style home. Those metal jazz musician statues are awesome.

I've never visited the house, but we try to make it to as many Handy Festival events as we can.

It's great that the log cabin has survived! I'm sure this is one good music festival.

I cannot hear the name W. C. Handy without thinking of the song Walking in Memphis...which mentions it. Not written by him or anything in case someone isn't familiar with the song.
