Ivy Green

Ivy Green, Birthplace of Helen Keller
Tuscumbia, Alabama, U. S. A.

Hellen Keller's birthplace is less than an hour away and I have never been there.
Our son went on an elementary class trip years ago, but my husband went with him since he works nearby.

Do you visit attractions near your home?

White and blue

Colbert County Courthouse, Tuscumbia, Alabama, U. S. A.

The beautiful building and skies get most of the credit here, but I have to put in a plug for the iPhone5 again.
While I don't have plans to visit each county courthouse in Alabama, I do like the old ones.  If you do like seeing courthouses and the architecture please visit my friend,
She has a goal of capturing all the historic courthouses in Texas.

Pelicans

This year there have been white pelicans in our waters.
I understand that this is somewhat of a rarity for our area here in northwest Alabama.

I captured these from the golf course which is on a creek from the Tennessee River.

I do not have a good wildlife lens so bear with me here.

This last shot is from the Elk River, also just a few miles away from my home.

O'Neal Bridge

O'Neal Bridge from the south side of the Tennessee River in Sheffield, Alabama.
The view is of Florence, Alabama, to the north.
Yesterday's post was from the opposite side of the river, taken from the shoreline on the left of the bridge in this shot.

The dead vine on the left foreground I'm sure is kudzu.  It is said that it can grow one foot per day.

The Shoals

O'Neal Bridge connects Florence, Alabama to Sheffield, Alabama.  Florence and Sheffield, along with Tuscumbia and Muscle Shoals are known as the Quad Cities or "The Shoals" in north Alabama.  The Colbert County towns of Sheffield, Tuscumbia, and Muscle Shoals run together and in certain areas I would not be able to tell you which town I was in.  I imagine it is a gray area for even the residents.

You may have (or not) heard of "the Muscle Shoals Sound", "Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section", and/or the "Swampers".  Many music hits, including country, R&B, and rock and roll have been produced by music studios in the The Shoals.  Muscle Shoals was known as the Hit Recording Capitol of the World in the 1960s and 1970s.

Here's a link to the movie about Muscle Shoals music

Standing (Rurality # 7)

The clouds look like smoke coming from these two silos still standing after surrounding homestead buildings are long gone.

Progress

The iPhone camera did a great job of capturing this beautiful day.
The day was extra special because my husband felt like hitting golf balls.
After hitting a bucket, he wanted to play nine.
He made it the whole nine holes.

Progress.

Long ago, but not so far away (Rurality # 6)

Any of my local friends will recognize this immediately.
This is a beautiful property along Interstate 65 near Warrior, Alabama.
It always seems fairy-tale-like to me.

Bradford Tuna

For a few days I kept smelling tuna every time I went near the kitchen table.
(we don't eat at the table very often).
I finally figured out what it was.

Spring in winter 2

A few days ago I cut some Bradford Pear tree branches to bring in the house to bloom.

They have bloomed.  It is a little messy.

This time Sister Peaches was the helper.
